COAST – Centre of Excellence in Maritime Simulator Training and Assessment (COAST) was established in 2020.
The centre is a consortium of four leading maritime education providers in Norway – University of South-Eastern Norway (USN) as the host institution, and Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL), Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and UiT The Arctic University of Norway (UiT) as consortium partners. The four institutions have worked together since 2011 in Markom2020, a development project with the aim of raising the competence of Norwegian seafarers.
COAST will integrate innovative simulator-based education to create an environment where active learning is fostered through student engagement and facilitated by instructors with high pedagogical skills. The centre will take a novel perspective on teaching, learning, simulator training and assessment with a focus on both technical and non-technical skills to educate future seafarers who will be able to cope with current and future challenges in the maritime industry.
